Lane argues that the Corinthian society in the time of Paul and our culture today are very similar when it comes to attitudes towards sex and sexuality.  This, he says, is why we need to be so attentive to what Paul says in his letter to the people of Corinth.

Lane argues that "promiscuity was rampant" in ancient Corinth just as it is in our own society.  He says that this was harmful to the people of Corinth just as it is harmful to Americans today.  Therefore, we should listen to what Paul had to say to the Corinthians.  If we have already been guilty of sexual sin, we should realize that it is not too late for us.  We should use God's help to make us stop committing our sins.  Then we should allow God to forgive us and resanctify us.
