I think that the wide access to information technology plays a large role in global pop culture emergence.  Different platforms of social media are now appropriated by so many in so many places that technology is vitally important in the growth of pop culture iconography.  Given how popular culture is so heavily influenced by commercial interests, this increases the need for social media platforms to generate pop culture on a global scale.  The use of websites, social networking sites, as well as file sharing sites all contribute to how people across the world access and amplify what is defined as pop culture.  Twitter accounts and facebook pages now become vitally important in determining elements that are affirmed as pop culture.  The emergence of information technology and social networking has helped to make pop culture to not be limited by both time and space, but rather transcend them in an almost simultaneous manner.  It is here where I think that the internet, the web, and social networking domains have become major causes for global pop culture.
