In my Language Arts class, I have to do a "character-in-a-bag" project on Animal Farm. My assigned character is Mollie and I have to put concrete objects in a bag on her. The object have to symbolize something (not physical) about her personality.
One of the advantages of an assignment like this would be that anything can be put in the bag so long as it has a connection to the character. I think that Carly Simon's song, "You're so Vain," might be an excellent addition to the bag because of Mollie's belief in her own sense of self. When I think of her, I also think of the people who attend the Kentucky Derby, showcasing their elaborate and ornate hats, something that would appeal for Mollie. I think the mirror is excellent, and the compact mirror would be wonderful because not only does it reflect, but it can be used to enhance one's appearance. Sugar placed in the bag would be good, if only to add to the fact that sugar can be used to numb us from the condition of others, as it is highly self- serving.
I have to answer any question from someone with a user name like that since I was a VB coach and player...
The most obvious thing to put in for Mollie would be some ribbons.
Mollie's whole personality is based on the fact that she is shallow and self-centered. All she really cares about is looking nice and having material goods. This could be represented by ribbons, since that is what she really wants. You could be more subtle about it and put in a mirror, I suppose. Or a mirror and some makeup. At any rate, something that shows she's hung up on her looks.
The other obvious type thing that you could put in would be some sugar cubes, if you have some. That's the other thing that Mollie wants.
But at any rate, what you need to put in is something that will show how self-centered and materialistic she is.
