The setting of Stargirl is the small town of Mica, Arizona. The town of Mica is situated on the edges of a low desert environment. The dry, somewhat barren desert reflects the fairly dry lives of Stargirl's peers at Mica Area High School. At first glance, neither the town nor the school appears to have much excitement. Everything seems to be lacking for liveliness just as the desert is lacking in greenery. The beauty of the setting seems to be in its gorgeous sunsets and the way in which the setting sun beams colors agains the desert mountains. Much of the story takes place in the Mica Area High School, as Stargirl's bright character begins to bring life to the school, which formerly seemed to be stuck in a continuous phase of low spirits.
