The Hobbit starts, and also finishes, in the village of Hobbiton. Hobbiton is a town in the Shire and is in the northwest section of Middle-Earth. Middle-Earth is a fantasy land created by The Hobbit’s author, J. R. R. Tolkien. It was inspired by Tolkien's love of German and Scandinavian folklore.
