The resolution of the story "The Most Dangerous Game" can be found at the end of the short story. We see General Zaroff push Rainsford far past his breaking point throughout the game. In the end, Rainsford must make a choice between killing or being killed. General Zaroff becomes overconfident as he sleeps in his mansion. Rainsford decides he must end this game before Zaroff can end him. Rainsford enters the bed chamber of the General and kills him. Rainsford then sleeps soundly through the night in the bed of the man he has just murdered. We are left to wonder what will become of Rainsford in the morning. Will he regret his decision? Will he take Zaroff's place and continue the game? Will he return to society as the same man or as someone completely different?
