There are two major ways in which religious groups are trying to get Proposition 8, (the proposal on California's ballot to ban the right of same-sex couples to marry), passed.

First, there is an organized and massive effort from the pulpits of churches and synagogues:  the Roman Catholic Church, the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons).  In addition, popular Christian author Rick Warren (A Purpose Driven Life) and head of the mega-church "Saddleback,"  has endorsed the measure.  Support also comes from such conservative organizations as James Dobson's group "Focus on the Family."  All hope to raise awareness among their groups and motivate them to go to the polls and vote.

The other way religious groups are trying to pass Proposition 8 is closely tied to awareness:  that is, raising and spending money.  They have purchased television and radio advertisements, passed out fliers, staked yard signs, and printed bumper stickers.
