The news is filled with people who are motivated by greed and self-preservation during times of conflict. Consider ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, slain Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi, and Ponzi schemer Bernie Madoff. One of the greatest examples is German Chancellor Adolph Hitler. He fueled his rise to power in part by persecuting Jews and. Germany never recovered economically after World War I so the Germans suffered financially. By targeting Jews among other groups, Hitler and his party leaders seized their belongings and used it to enrich themselves. Their greed and self-preservation instincts enabled them to live abundantly while many Germans suffered. Some of the greatest war-time atrocities were recorded during Hitler’s reign of terror.
