The most significant aspect of the election of President Obama is that he is the first President who is predominantly of African descent. That is to say, he is the first president whose ethnicity would be considered a minority group within the United States. Although the 2008 election heavily favored any democratic candidate, Obama's election campaign carried much more symbolic weight than most, using the idea of a new era of thought and understanding. An aspect that appealed to the large number of US citizens who were exhausted from the occupation of both Iraq and Afghanistan.
