The pharmaceutical industry is a collection of businesses both large and small that are dedicated to improving human life through the curing or mediating of illnesses with chemical or biological agents.  The pharmaceutical industry employs a wide variety of people across many disciplines.  Scientists are the most obvious employees, including chemists, biologists, microbiologists, toxicologists, medical doctors, engineers, etc.  Other types of employees include lawyers, accountants, human resources, salespeople, marketing people, and others.  The industry is involved in every aspect of disease management including the discovery and study of new disease mechanisms, finding chemical or biological cures, testing these cures in everything from cell cultures to animals to humans, developing and manufacturing scale quantities of drugs, and marketing and selling the end products to consumers.
