Pastoral elements in literature contain idealized conventions of a rustic or rural life. Various descriptions of landscape and nature come into play as well as participants in country life (like shepherds). In Shakespeare's As You Like It, the Forest of Arden provides a perfect backdrop against which pastoral elements come alive on stage.

yes , As You Lie It can be said to be a pastoral comedy because this play has been set in the countryside (more specifically it can be said in the forest of Arden). It mainly deals with the rustrustic life of the shepherds , the simple and healthier life that duke senior was leading.leaving only the begining part, the whole of the play is based on the forest of arden. Thus it is poularly known to be a pastoral play.
