In chapter 17, when Bob Ewell is testifying about the supposed rape, Rev. Sykes tells Jem to take Scout home. Jem instead orders Scout to leave, but Scout refuses telling him to 'make her'. Jem then declares that Scout doesn't know what is going on, but Scout replies that she does even though as a reader we know she doesn't.
