It is too bad that the Cold War happened, but given that the Soviet Union had taken Eastern Europe after WWII, it is overall a good thing that it did.
Ideally, there would have been no Cold War. The USSR would simply have let Poland and East Germany and other countries be democratic and have freedoms. However, that is not the way it happened. Once the Soviets took those countries, it was important for them to be freed because people deserve to have liberty. Because people were oppressed by communism, it is good that the Cold War happened to, eventually, free them.
