Pena is the poet with a B.A. in Social Sciences who was recruited by Levenson to collect the research for the Introduction to Levenson's upcoming book about Archanjo. The best way to understand the official view toward race in Pedro's time period is to think of the many international translations that were published of Levenson's book. These all denote official agreement with Archanjo's theory of the value of miscegenation, i.e., the intermarriage between people of different races.

"Archanjo published in Moscow and praised by Pravda."
