Well, there are several ice ages along the geologic time scale of the Earth.  The most recent one occured about 11,000 years ago.  The term "Ice Age" refers to a period of time when temperatures on the Earth were markedly lower than they are presently, resulting in more pack ice across the oceans and at the northerly and southerly extremes of the Earth.  This lowering of temperatures could be caused by a lowering of the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.  It could also be caused by a blockage of the sun's radiation, as is put forth by several theories.  In any event, evidence exists of major glacial movement and deposits that are not in existance today.
