The manager of Club Chic is Mr. Bartell, a "gray haired, aristocratic-looking Negro with a sharp eye" (Chapter 28), who also runs a record shop on Durango Street.

Although the story takes place among the myriad streets and alleys of a large urban city, only three streets are mentioned specifically by name. These are Durango Street, Teagarden Street, where Rufus's mother's house is located, and Walnut Street, where the Moors have their meetings with their street club worker Alex.
