You are definitely correct in your answer to this question.  This country has to be Italy.

First of all, there is no other country that is on a peninsula that extends into the central Mediterranean Sea.  Greece is on a peninsula that is mostly in the Mediterranean, but it is not in the central Mediterranean.  It is far to the east in that sea.  That leaves only Italy.

Secondly, Italy is famous for the divide between its northern and southern regions.  These regions are so distinctive that the north sometimes wishes to break away from the south.  There is a great deal of animosity between the two with the northerners looking down on the southerners.  The north is much richer and more industrialized.

Therefore, Italy is the correct answer to this question.
