I really enjoyed this film about a young Black writer who is mentored by an aging White writer. In the film, a young South Bronx teenager is fascinated by a man who keeps staring down at him as he plays basketball. After breaking into the man's apartment and leaving his backpack, the journals in the backpack are returned with comments. The apartment happens to be inhabited by William Forrester, an author who published one important novel 50 years ago. The two become friends and the author encourages the young teenager's talent for writing.
