The mood of "The Most Dangerous Game" is suspenseful and dark. The elements in this story contribute to the suspenseful and dark mood as it examines certain elements  that underlie the human psyche. The author includes elements that contribute to suspense as the hunt is occurring. One continually wonders throughout the story if Rainsford is going to get caught or if he will escape off the island. Suspense is contributed as Rainsford is continually found by Zaroff but he lets him continue on so as to continue on with his game. The story takes place in the tangles of the jungle and well as the presence of Ivan. Ivan's presence alone contribues to the mood of darkness and supsense as he looms over him at the beginning of the story.
