What month do the HG men take Harrison Bergeron away?
Harrison is taken away by the government men in the month of April. This is a time of year which, according to Vonnegut, still drives people crazy by not being springtime. And there's certainly something crazy about the way in which the totalitarian government has lumbered Harrison, like so many others, with handicaps in order to impose absolute equality on society. Harrison's arrest is entirely in keeping with the general air of insanity in this nightmare world.
April is also appropriate for Harrison's incarceration as, in the famous opening line of T. S. Eliot's poem "The Waste Land," it is the "cruelest month." Again, there's something rather cruel about the way in which people have their lives ruined by being forced to wear handicaps to drag them down to a general level of mediocrity.
