Tropic hormones, also called trophic hormones, are produced by the anterior pituitary gland (or adenohypophysis).  They act to stimulate other endocrine glands to release their hormones rather than directly stimulating target cells.  Tropic hormones include follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH).
