Pleurisy is a disease characterized by the inflammation of the pleura.  The pleura is the membrane surrounding the lungs.  It is composed of a double thick membrane with the space between them called the pleural cavity.  Inflamed pleura can cause difficulty with breathing.  So clearly the major organs affected are the lungs.  Some symptoms of pleurisy are sharp pains with deep breaths, shortness of breath, heavy coughing, fever, and coughing up blood.  It is normally caused by a viral infection.  It can be treated by inserting a tube into the pleural cavity to remove excess fluid.
