The conflict between hope and despair is implied in the poem. Hope is examined through the metaphor of a little bird that "perches in the soul" and sings without stopping, even without reason or support. The song of hope sounds "sweetest" during the storm; hope is so strong that it cannot be expunged, except perhaps by the worst of storms. Through the extension of the metaphor, hope can overcome despair during the worst of times, "in the chillest land" and "on the strangest sea."

In the poem ''Hope is the thing with Feathers'' just like the feathers of a bird helps it to be cozy, warm and protected hope is the feeling which keeps us alive and helps us to overcome severe extreme phrases on our lifetime.Even when we are in danger there is glimpse of hope which is roosting inside our soul. When the bird is also trapped in the cage full of dangers, extremities, harsh times like us it does not give up or surrender itself to the situation. It rather has rays of hope, struggles for life and finally succeeds in life.
