Scene 2: The main action in scene 2 is the play that Hamlet has performed to make Claudius feel guilty. He has the players act out a murder scene similar to the murder of King Hamlet, and instructs Horatio to help him judge the reaction of Claudius. Hamlet's plan works, and Claudius is very shaken after seeing the performance.

Scene 3: Hamlet stumbles across Claudius, who looks like he is praying. Not wanting to kill Claudius while he is praying, Hamlet decides to wait. Claudius, however, is not praying. He is contemplating his sin and deciding that he is too far invested to turn back now.

Reactions may range from excitement that Hamlet has confirmed Claudius a murderer to frustration over Hamlet's hesitation to act. we question whether Hamlet's pretend insane behavior is really necessary. We also question Hamlet for passing the opportunity to kill Claudius.
