InDreams from My Father,Barack Obama is the main character. The story centers around his early life and career and it is his inner conflict over the role race and heritage will play in his life that carries the book.
A major secondary character is Barack Obama Senior, the author's father. Though the book opens with news of the elder Obama's death and he is never present as a true "character" in the book, the son's quest to find out about the father is central. The reader learns many things about Obama Senior through his son's journey and another conflict in the book centers around Obama's desire to know who his father was.
Other characters include Obama's mother, her parents (Gramps and Toot), his sister (Auma) and his brother (Roy).
Barack Obama is the main character.
