There were many important machines that were invented to mechanize the process of making textiles.  These were very important in pushing the Industrial Revolution forward in England.  These machines included:

  • Spinning Jenny.  This was a machine that could take fibers and spin them into thread.  This was a task that previously had been done by by hand by women (generally) using spinning wheels.
  • Water frame.  This was an improvement on the spinning jenny that could make the threads stronger and more uniform.
  • Powered loom.  Once threads are made, they must be woven into cloth.  This was previously done using looms that were run by human power.  The powered loom used water or steam power to accomplish this.

These were some of the most important machines that revolutionized the making of textiles and allowed the Industrial Revolution to progress.
