The leading cause of death in the USA in 2011 was heart disease followed by cancer. The causes of heart disease is cardiovascular disease which is damage to the heart of blood vessels leading to or from the heart. This is typically a buildup of plaque which is fatty acids within the arteries which results in less nutrients being carried to the heart and the rest of the body. This is caused by poor diet and lack of exercise which results in a thickening of the arteries and ventricles which reduced blood flow in the body which can lead to damage to organs based on lower level of nutrients being able to be delivered by the heart.
