In Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, the tenant farmers come together to boycott the Wallaces' store because the Wallaces begin leading night raids and encouraging violent behavior at the store. The farmers want to shop in Vicksburg but Mr. Granger and Mr. Montier threaten to kick them off the land if they do. The black community tries to find someone to shop for them in Vicksburg so that Mr. Granger and Mr. Montier won't find out. Mr. Jamison offers to back the credit of the tenant farmers in Vicksburg. He turns over the deed of the land to the Logan family so that they are no longer threatened by the Grangers. The Logans begin to do the Vicksburg shopping and bring supplies back to the other tenant farmers in the area.
