The setting is a house where a couple once lived. They are dead now and revisiting as ghosts. They tour the drawing room (what we would call the living room), the garden with its trees, and their old bedroom. They remember reading in the garden and rolling apples in the barn's loft. The house radiates a feeling of reassuring safety to them, seeming to say over and over to them the words "safe, safe, safe."

As befits ghosts, much of the imagery of the setting is moonlight and memories. The ghosts are described by the current owners as holding silver lamps above them. It may be raining outside, but the ghostly couple who once lived here is filled with joy at revisiting the old haunts.
