Benjamin Button is born as a seventy-year-old man who ages in reverse. He gets younger at the same pace that children grow up. His socially conscious parents are ashamed of him and make him act like a baby, although both his mind and body are seventy. Benjamin's grandfather, however, is his friend and supporter. At the age of fifty (although he has only been alive for twenty years), Benjamin falls in love with Hildegarde Moncrief. The two marry and have a son named Roscoe; unfortunately, Benjamin is no longer interested in his wife as she gets older and he gets younger. After his stint in the Spanish-American War, Benjamin graduates from Harvard and, much to his son's chagrin, later plays with his own grandson, as they are both children. After aging down enough to enter kindergarten, Benjamin becomes so young that the only two things he can sense are colors and the smell of milk, both of which eventually fade away.
