The most influential factor in deciding on the role of a teacher is motivation. In order to identify with the role of a teacher, one must be motivated and passionate enough to become an educator and help people (mainly children) learn and gain knowledge and experience. Many decide to become teachers because it is their lifelong dream to help children grow and learn how to contribute to the community as cultured and educated members of society. Thus, the desire to make a difference in the lives of people and the desire to work with children are some of the main factors that influence the decision to take on the role of a teacher.

Other important factors are employment benefits, such as vacations, employment stability, and a good working environment. Finally, teaching is a job that requires a lot of dedication and responsibility, which is why it is often quite respected and acclaimed in many countries. Thus, the reputation that one might get by being a teacher might also be a contributing factor.
