What is at stake in affirming that God is triune? Why does it matter? What are the implications of believing this? How does it affect the way we think about and live out all the other aspects of our faith (doctrine and praxis)?

Affirming that God is triune ends the debate on whether or not the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are separate. The concept of the triune God asserts that he is one unified whole. The Bible also tells believers that they are made in the image and likeness of God, which means they carry the Trinity within them and should respect all life.

The concept of the triune God is a key part of the Christian faith. Affirming that God is triune is important because it confirms that God is not three separate persons but rather three distinct substances (the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit) intertwined in one God. For many years, there has been much theological debate as to what the Trinity precisely means and whether or not these three beings were separate or unified in one whole God. Affirming God is triune affirms he is completely one.

There are many implications of the Trinity for practicing Christians. One significant implication is that they must follow the teachings of Jesus Christ from the Bible. The concept of the Trinity asserts that Jesus is one with God and thus following Jesus is following God. The Bible also tells believers that they are made in the image and likeness of God. Christians believe that this message, along with the holy sacrament of baptism, means that the Trinity dwells within each person. If this is true, then it means that harming or neglecting oneself is causing harm and disrespect to God. It also means that people should respect others because the Trinity dwells within them too.
