Varma is Rakesh's elderly father who starts to experience resentment toward his son as the story progresses. As he finds his freedom limited by the way in which Rakesh cares for him, Varma comes across as an increasingly bitter and resentful person.

The old man's diet is carefully controlled and monitored by his son, which Varma perceives as restrictive and unfair because he doesn't get to eat what he wants to. As these feelings of anger and frustration become more and more entrenched, Varma starts to feel like a prisoner. He is unable to be empathetic toward his devoted son, who believes that he is doing everything possible to help his father and make him more comfortable.

In essence, Varma is struggling to accept the loss of his independence, and this frustration manifests as bitterness toward his son.
