It would depend on what point in her career you were inquiring about.  She was definitely strongly influenced by her hometown, New Orleans which features prominently in many of her books which gave the majority of them gothic overtones in the setting.  Many of her books are "emotionally" gothic due to being heavily influenced by death.  She lost her daughter (said to have inspired Claudia in Interview with the Vampire) to leukemia when her daughter was very young.  After 41 years of marriage, she lost her husband as well.

Later, she became very influenced by Roman Catholicism when she rejoined the Church.
