This is a great question. It is easy to think that the study of history is not important. Why study facts that happened long ago? With that said, there are many reasons why we should study history. Let me name three.

First, history teaches us the successes and failures of the past. We need to know these things, so that we can learn to avoid past mistake and emulate great moments.

Second, history teaches us about causality. If x happen, then y may follow. These lessons of causality hopefully will make us smarter and wiser.

Third, we learn about human nature through history. So, we can learn about ourselves and what we are like. We may even be able to make predictions based on this information.

For these reasons and more, we should all be students of history and certainly keep it in the classroom.
