What impact could China, with its growing economy, have on our relationship with the Middle East?
Does the growing economy of China have the potential to shift the United States' relationships with the Middle East?
The biggest concern about China's economic growth for American relationship with the Middle East centers on the question of oil. China continues to industrialize very quickly, its use of oil increases 7.5 % every year. In order to keep up with the demands for oil in China, they are being forced to look to the Middle East for their oil. In doing so, they are met with interacting with the US. So far, the Chinese have found that a congenial relationship with the US has more benefits than having a competitive and negative relationship with the US. However, it is clear to China that their economic growth and energy needs are in the hands of a relatioship with the US.
There could be competition between China and USA over the oil trade, as China has been expanding economically pretty well while USA has still not been progressing as far. So, it might strain the relationship a big, but it still could be fixed with more meetings between the leaders and more trade deals to be implemented.
