What threatens the free flow of ideas in our nation today?

An illustration of the letter 'A' in a speech bubbles

There are not really any legal threats to the free flow of ideas in our country today.  The only real threat to this flow is sensitivity on the part of the people.  Americans today tend to worry very much about what people will think of their ideas.  They often censor their thoughts because they do not want people to think badly of them.  This makes it so that we are not always able to understand what public figures are truly thinking.  Americans, then, have the right to say whatever they want and they have plenty of opportunities to do so.  But they tend to worry about being honest about their beliefs.
