In the novel The Call of the Wild by Jack London, the reader follows what happens with a dog named Buck. After Buck fights the lead dog Spitz to the death, Francois puts his dog Sol-leks in position to lead the team. When he does this, Buck simply shoves Sol-leks aside. Buck continues to shove Sol-leks aside, in essence demanding the leadership of the team as his right. Finally Francois gives in and puts Buck in the lead. With his leadership, the team makes a fast run, and when they arrive at their destination, the team is sold.
When Sol-leks is put in lead, Buck attacks Sol-leks (although not enough for any serious injury), in order to show tha he wants to be the head, or dominant dog.
