What happened that caused Homer's dad to give him a "wide open field"?

After the flight of Auk22d led it to sink deep into the field next to Little Richard's church, the boys were banned from using Cape Coalwood by Mr. Fuller, the man sent to the town to oversee the mine.  As Homer and his dad pulled up to the launch pad, he was tearing down the blockhouse and bulldozing slag over the launch pad.

After an argument with his dad, his dad argued with Mr. Fuller and apparently once they'd gotten mad enough at each other, Homer's father decided that he would take the risk of going after Mr. Fuller and he told Homer that he would sign any requisition he wanted and that they were welcome to Cape Coalwood.
