What happened to Afghanis when the Taliban took over?Pls with as much examples as possible
In general, what happened when the Taliban took over Afghanistan was that the people of the country lost much of their freedom. The Taliban enforced a very strict interpretation of Islamic law (Sharia) on the country.
Some examples that you can see from the book are:
- We are told that truckloads of Taliban drive around looking for people who are not dressing or behaving properly.
- Because of things like that Amir must wear a false beard because he would be in trouble if he was found to be clean shaven.
- The couple in the stadium are being executed by stoning because they have committed adultery.
In the book "The Kite Runner" the Taliban have taken over Afghanistan and it is now under military control by various sectors of Taliban insurgents. The Taliban has taken over properties that formerly belonged to other ethnic groups. Amir has a driver, Farid, take him to the house where he believes his nephew is being kept. In the house he is confronted with men with guns and uniforms. The men had previously engaged in public executions, a common practice, after the Taliban's took over.
"Public justice is the greatest kind of show,"(276) stated the man. (Couples stoning)
He then goes on to tell Amir that the Taliban had gone from door to door. They had called out the men and boys.
"We'd shoot them right in front of their families."(277)
The man, his old enemy from childhood-Assef, is referring to the Hazara Massacre in Mazar-i-Sahrif.
"It had happened just after the Taliban took over Mazar."(277)
