How did the 1st Matabele War in 1893 affect the British empire?
This war affected the British Empire by giving it greater control over Southern Africa. This war was fought in the area that is now the country of Zimbabwe.
The war started because of infighting among native peoples in this area. A native ruler who was under the protection of the British was attacked by another ruler who was not under British protection. The British felt that they had to go to war to protect the ruler who was under their protection. They felt that no one would have confidence in them if they did not.
The war resulted in a British victory over the Matabele people. This gave the British more complete control over what came to be called Rhodesia.
