After Darry slaps Ponyboy in the face for coming home past his curfew and arguing with him, Pony runs out of his house and meets up with Johnny. At the beginning of chapter 4 , Pony and Johnny are walking around the park around two-thirty in the morning when a blue Mustang pulls up beside them and five Soc members hop out. The drunk Soc members approach Pony and Johnny and end up backing them into the park fountain. Bob Sheldon proceeds to threaten the boys for picking up their Soc girlfriends earlier that day and ridicules the Greasers' long hair, which prompts Ponyboy to spit in his face. Bob then asks for help giving Ponyboy a "bath," and the Socs proceed to hold his head underwater in the park fountain. Pony mentions that he feels...
