I'm going to take a different route when it comes to this controversial Best Picture winner. Here's a thesis statement that incorporates the concepts of racism and stereotyping:

In reducing its principal characters to racial stereotypes, Crash oversimplifies race.

To support this argument, you could then talk about how the film's characters conform to stereotypes and confirm prejudices against them. Take Officer Ryan, for example. Even before the Los Angeles riots, the Los Angeles Police Department had a history of racism. Ryan's racist attitudes and actions adhere so closely to the stereotype of the racist LAPD cop as to border on being cartoonish.

Similarly, Cameron conforms to the stereotype of the "angry Black man." When he's caught by the police—who incorrectly assume he's the carjacker—he gives them hell, cussing them out and demeaning them in a vulgar, enraged tirade.
