To write a good thesis statement, you must first know what it is you want to argue in your essay.  You should then state your main argument clearly and concisely.  There are a number of ways that a person could go in an essay on mercy killing.  Here are a few possible thesis statements:

  • Although it may seem preferable for a person to die, life is a precious gift and we should never take it away from a person just because they are suffering.
  • Although mercy killing can be morally acceptable at times, making it legal would put too much pressure on elderly people to accept euthanasia so as not to be a financial or emotional burden.
  • Because the basis of human dignity is choice and free will, people must have the right to choose when to end their own lives.
