The goal of the Zionist movement (which started back in the 1800s) was to create a state (country) for Jews.  This state would preferably be in Palestine, but that was not always what Zionists planned.  The Zionists' goal was achieved after WWII when the State of Israel was created.

The main outcome of Zionism was the creation of Israel.  Along with that event, however, have come many of the problems we associate with the Middle East today.  The ongoing struggle between the Israelis and the Palestinians whose land was taken to make Israel are a major world problem.
