What gives off the impression that ghosts can come back and visit the living in the after life?
I am a 7th grader doing a research paper for a class and I wanted to know why do people believe in the sightings and encounters of ghosts with the living?
Of course, there is no right answer to this. We can't know why people believe what they believe. But here are my two theories about this.
First, I think that we want very badly for there to be an afterlife. We want to think that when we die, we will still live in some way and we will still be able to see the people we care about, for instance. So that makes us more willing to believe that ghosts can exist.
Second, I think that there are many things that happen that are hard for us to explain. Because our brains are so powerful, our brains can convince us that the explanation for those things must be supernatural.
So I think it's a combination of wanting to believe in ghosts and having brains that can convince us we've seen things that weren't there.
Of course, someone who actually believes in ghosts might have a different answer.
How many times do you hear about ghost sightings and spirits on television shows, from friends and even relatives? It's fairly common that people believe this, and the more people talk openly about it, the more believable it becomes for some.
Also look at the number of movies put out each year that involve the supernatural, and are "based on a true story". Popular culture, from music to movies to Ouija Boards and psychic hotlines have a pretty big influence on what some people believe.
There are many books that have been written by people who have listened to their family members or friends state that they have seen people present at the time of their death who are not visible to others. Some of the books that have been written serve as speculation that helps others to believe in the phenomena.
When human beings do not understand something they create an explanation that serves to validate an occurrence. There are many events, feelings, auras, and lights or sightings that can not be explained. Without concrete evidence as to what has caused these events, people have created the idea of ghosts or haunts.
Ghosts and the supernatural have been in existence since the dawn of civilization. The interesting thing will be to see where it develops in the future as more scientific equipment is developed. Religious people often identify them as being spirits.
