The summer for Jem, Dill, and Scout starts out as a fun time full of games and shenanigans.  One of the first things they do is take turns rolling down the street in an old tire.  When it is Scout’s turn, Jem pushes a little too hard, and Scout ends up in the Radley yard.  She is dazed, and Jem must run into the yard to rescue her.  After that, Jem dreams up a game called, “Boo Radley”, where the children pretend to be members of the Radley family and act out absurd storylines they imagine take place in the Radley household.  Scout portrays Mrs. Radley, Dill portrays Mr. Radley, and Jem portrays Boo.  The game is pretty silly with Scout sweeping the front porch, Dill walking up and down the street, and Jem yelling and hollering from under the porch of their house.  Atticus eventually catches them playing the game, and Jem lies about what they are doing.  They eventually decide to leave Boo alone when Jem and Dill are caught trying to pass a note to Boo through the picket fence.
