There are numberous factors that contribute to how we view sex and sexuality in our society. A driving factor however, is rooted in the religious history of a society. For example, in America sex is seen as extremely taboo. The reason for this is found in the very conservative puritan beliefs of those who first settled this country. Although our society of course does not still hold the exact same beliefs as our founders, their impact is still felt to this very day. The same can also be said when discussing subjects such a alcohol. I have in fact experienced both European and American cultures. The reason that the Europeans are much more lax on subjects such as alcohol and sex, is that their religious tendencies were reformed as we in America never went through such a reformation. It is for this reason that the primary driving factor of how we view sex and sexuality in our society dates back to the conservative puritan values and principles that those founding our society believed.
