Sonic is anything related to sound or speed of sound. For examples, any object moving with speeds greater than the speed of sound (in air, equal to 343 m/s or 768 miles per hour or 1 Mach) are called supersonic objects, while those moving with speeds less than speed of sound are called subsonic objects. The military aircraft used by air force are generally supersonic. Another related concept is the sonic boom, which is nothing but the sound created by a supersonic object. Any supersonic object generates shock waves and these waves create an effect similar to that of an explosion. Similar sonic booms are also experienced by observers near a space shuttle or concorde airplane. Another application of term sonic is in acoustic lining, which is also known as sonic lining.

Hope this helps.
