Near the end of Brave New World, the Controller says that his society has gotten rid of the fear of death, social instability, the upsets of passion, and the sufferings of old age. Along the way he also says they've gotten rid of their emotional connections to families and lovers, which he doesn't say is evil, but which did lead to upsets and instability. A bit later he talks about his world being free of war because it is stable; this too is one of the evils his society's put behind them.
